The High Court has handed down a judgment dismissing an application brought by Nikita Mazepin, a former Formula 1 driver, who sought elements of his sanctions designation to be lifted or suspended to enable him to negotiate and conclude agreements with Formula 1 teams for the season beginning in March 2024.

The High Court held that the balance of convenience fell in favour of the Government in circumstances where Mr Mazepin could not establish that the grant of interim relief would materially increase his prospects of selection for a Formula 1 team, and there was a strong public interest in the maintenance of Mr Mazepin’s designation which the grant of interim relief would undermine.

Jason Pobjoy, Rayan Fakhoury and Femi Adekoya acted for the Defendant.
