The Court of Appeal upheld the first instance decision of Cockerill J, which dismissed Ms Khan’s challenge to her designation under the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.
The Court of Appeal considered issues arising out of the imposition of sanctions on persons who are “associated with” designated persons. This is the first case to reach a substantive appeal in the Court of Appeal in relation to someone designated solely on the basis of the association provisions in the Russian sanctions regime relating to the war in Ukraine.
