Gayatri has a broad practice, with a particular focus on commercial litigation, civil fraud, competition and public law. She is regularly instructed in complex and high-value disputes, which often involve an overlap between her areas of practice. She is identified as a leading junior in the latest editions of Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 for her expertise in six areas: Civil Fraud, Commercial Litigation, Administrative and Public Law, Group Litigation, Data Protection and Environment.

Gayatri is as comfortable in heavy commercial litigation as she is in public law. Her practice includes trial and appellate advocacy. She was instructed in two trials (for six and eight weeks respectively) before the Commercial Court in 2024. She has also appeared before the highest appellate courts, including the Supreme Court (on eight occasions) and the European Court of Human Rights. She regularly appears unled in the Commercial Court and Administrative Court.

  • Acting for the claimant sellers pursuing claims arising out of the termination of SPAs in respect of Brazilian mining assets: BM Brazil 1 Fundo De Investimento Em Participacoes Multistrategia v Sibanye BM Brazil (Pty) Ltd [2024] EWHC 2566 (Comm);
  • Acting for the claimant investors in a substantial claim in conspiracy to defraud: GI Globinvestment Ltd v XY ERS UK Ltd [2024] EWHC 481 (Comm);
  • Acting for the respondent in committal proceedings arising out of a search order: Ocado Group Plc v McKeeve [2021] EWHC 3542 (Ch); [2022] EWHC 2079; [2022] EWHC 2478;
  • Acting for Motorola in an application for a US$345 million freezing injunction and enforcement proceedings: Motorola Solutions Inc v Hytera [2020] EWHC 980 (Comm); [2021] QB 744; [2022] EWHC 2887 (Comm); [2024] EWHC 149 (Comm).

  • Acting for the defendants in a competition damages claim regarding alleged breaches of Brazilian competition law in the orange juice industry: Viegas v Cutrale [2021] EWHC 1340 (Comm); [2021] EWHC 2956 (Comm); [2023] EWHC 1896 (Comm);
  • Acting for the Law Society in a claim regarding the provision of criminal legal aid: R (Law Society) v Lord Chancellor [2024] 1 WLR 3097;
  • Acting for the Duke of Sussex in claims regarding his security provision: R (Duke of Sussex) v SSHD [2023] EWHC 1228 (Admin); [2022] EWHC 1936 (Admin); [2024] EWHC 418 (Admin);
  • Acting for the claimants in a claim concerning the failure of MI5 to comply with statutory safeguards concerning the handling of personal data: Liberty v Security Service [2023] HRLR 5.

Gayatri is a member of the Attorney General’s C Panel of Counsel. She was nominated for Public Law Junior of the Year (2023; Legal 500 Bar Awards). Before coming to the Bar, Gayatri taught EU law, tort law and land law at the University of Oxford.
